New @ Blue

A map of overall task-fMRI brain coverage from the seven tasks used in the Human Connectome Project. Yellow and red represent regions that become more active in most participants during one or more tasks in the MR scanner; blue represents regions that become less active. Source: D.M. Barch for the WU-Minn HCP Consortium. The NIH BRAIN Initiative is part of a new Presidential focus aimed at revolutionizing studies of the human brain. The goal is to produce new tools to ultimately reveal how individual brain cells and neural circuits interact in time and space. The Blueprint will be a lead contributor. The Neuroimaging Informatics Tools and Resources Clearinghouse (NITRC) now offers a cloud-based computing environment to help researchers manage and analyze large volumes of brain imaging data. With NITRC-CE, an analysis that would typically require 24 hours can be done in less than 10 minutes, for a nominal fee.
NIH Toolbox logo A special issue of Neurology marks the unveiling of the NIH Toolbox, a set of standard measures for assessing neurological and behavioral health in clinical studies. A series of articles describes the tests within the Toolbox, how the Toolbox was constructed and validated, and efforts to establish norms for Toolbox data.
